She was transported to UVA Hospital’s emergency room after losing consciousness for seven minutes. According to initial evaluations, the victim sustained a concussion, a contusion, lower back pain, and a closed-head injury. Doctors treated her body aches and dizziness and subsequently diagnosed her with a body sprain and strain. At a concussion clinic, doctors determined that our client was experiencing difficulty with concentration, dizziness, and conversation. She was prescribed Elavil, naproxen, and physical therapy.
The victim received treatment throughout 2014, during which time she reported a dramatic decrease in her headache pain. Unfortunately, her concentration had not improved. In January 2015, our client reported numbness throughout her left arm and left leg. A neuropsychologist performed a medical exam and concluded that her medication had not helped as expected. However, the neuropsychologist did note that our client’s PTSD had vastly improved, at which time the doctor reinstated her driving privileges.
Due to the number of injuries our client sustained, her driver’s license was suspended and she was unable to return to work, resulting in $29,000 worth of lost wages. She also incurred over $43,000 in medical expenses.
